Empowerment:  -Through this program MUYOG undertakes activities that encourage youth to extensively explore any available knowledge, skills and resources for socio-economic development. MUYOG encourages youth to engage in sporting activities and other artistic ventures including music, art and craft,  creative writing as a means for generating livelihood.
Hiv/Aid:  - The purpose of this program is to Empower youth with necessary social and economic knowledge and skills to combat HIV infection and spread
Education: In Kenya, a good number of those who have made it in life (if not all) have their roots premised on a strong education background which is founded on a strong financial backdrop. It is worth noting that a strong education setting is a recipe for a successful life.   
Leadership and Good Governance: The programme, thus, seeks to establish a community forum for exchanging best practices and problematic areas in promoting democratic accountability at local level and enhancing cooperation between local actors and elected leaders.  Through this programme, the voice of the community will be raised through empowerment and strengthening of individual’s and/or group’s capacity to demand political accountability.

Best Time to see Wildebeest Migration

January / February / March - During the period January through March the seemingly unending short grass plains of the southern Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (not the Ngorongoro Crater), are inhabited by enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra. Pregnant female wildebeest are attracted to the calcium and magnesium rich grass which is good for milk production. Calving occurs late January through mid March when over 80% of the female wildebeest give birth over a period of a few weeks. An estimated 400,000 wildebeest calves are born during this period.

As things dry up throughout March the herds might split into smaller groups focused on areas with the best conditions. In late March the long rains begin.

April / May – From late March through early May Tanzania’s long rains are in full effect with regular downpours. It is considered off season for wildlife viewing and many lodges and camps close down. Grass can grow past the roof of your Land Rover and roads are often impassable.We do not advise traveling during April or May.

June – By early June things are drying up. The herds continue westwards, towards the Grumeti River. The riverine forest harbors plentiful buffalo and elephant, while there are many hippo and huge, hungry crocodiles in the river waiting for the wildebeest as they come to drink.

July / August / September / October:  The wildebeest rapidly deplete the grass and water in the Western Corridor and Grumeti and start to move on. The migration may still be found in the Singita Grumeti Reserve during July but the odds become slimmer as you move through the month. In a typical year the migration can be spread over huge distances, with the first zebra herds arriving in the northern Serengeti by early July and big herds of wildebeest following later in the month. In a dry year, the first wildebeest could be near the Mara River (the only decent permanent water in the eco-system) by early July; in a wet year, by mid-August. If conditions are very good, i.e. there is plenty of grass and water, the herds will be spread out all the way from Seronera to the Mara River.

Typically from late July to mid October the wildebeest reside in the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara. The dry season is well under way and the herds congregate near water, especially the Mara River filled with hungry crocs.

In terms of timing I would shoot for late August through late September to maximize my changes of seeing a river crossing… of course crossings, and recrossings, occur before and after this time period. The areas that the wildebeest cover are vast and finding a group on the brink of crossing is not a given. Crossing are often elusive, rapid experiences.

Mid to late October dramatic thunder clouds herald the onset of the short rains and call the migration southward. Wherever rains fall the change is dramatic with thousands of animals arriving almost overnight.

November / December As the rains continue during November the herds move south and east. Heading into December long lines of wildebeest can be seen moving back to the southern Serengeti and its short, rich grasses. The circle of life is complete as they begin to arrive late December into early January. Elsewhere in the Serengeti the grass grows fast and tall making wildlife viewing more difficult. We do not advise traveling at this time of year.

Day 1
Depart Nairobi for Shaba at seven in the morning. Upon arrival in the park, you will enjoy a game drive enroute to the lodge. Check in at the lodge, followed by a buffet lunch at the restaurant.
After lunch, you have the early afternoon free, to enjoy the amenities of the lodge which include a swimming pool before going for an afternoon game drive, from 1530hrs. After the game drive, return to the lodge to freshen up for a candlelit bush dinner

The starkly beautiful landscape of the reserve is dominated by Shaba hill to the south, at the foot of which is a rugged area with steep ravines, whose sandy soils are volcanic. Kenya occupies unique position in Africa as a crossroad of major ethnic groups. In very broad terms, these can be divided into the following;

Nilotic The only large Nilotic group in Kenya is the Luo tribes on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Western Kenya.

Nilo Hamitic The major tribes are the Maasai, Samburu and the Turkana, nomadic people who inhibit plains and semi desert areas from the from Southern to Northern Kenya.

Kalenjin Similar to the Nilo Hamitic, the major tribes are the Kipsigis, Nandi and Tugen from the Central Rift Valley.

Hamitic The major tribes are the Somali, Boran, and Rendile who tend cattle and camels in Northern Kenya.

Life in the Slums

There are many roots to the issue of, with poverty and lack of education definitely being two of the main root issues. Our team in Kenya routinely visits the slum areas where many people live among the dirt and squalor, without access to any proper education at all.

Because these people are desperate for work of any kind (construction, begging, brothels), they have their families and children with them, and tuck away into these hidden shanty villages throughout the region. The parents do not have jobs and children not attending any type of schooling so they loter around the slum and often without parental supervision. This leaves them especially vulnerable to abuse, as they can neither attend school, nor go to the police or medical system or social services for assistance of any kind.

So with the backing of Christian organizations and partners, our team visits these well-hidden slum regions, to build trust and relationship, as well as to provide simple medical aid (bandaids, disinfectant for wounds) and also to provide some basic education, teaching the children to read and write. We also provide education about traffickers and how they lure people into the darkness that exists all around them. This also gives us a chance to monitor what is going on and help prevent trafficking to these highly-vulnerable communities. And of course, we spread the love of Jesus with hugs, smiles, prayers and just by being present with them, right where they live!

This volunteer opportunity will help you explore the wonders of Kenya while helping those less fortunate. It will also give you a wonderful introduction to the famous safari country during your volunteer holiday. Advance Africa volunteer in Kenya opportunities are available in orphanages, schools, hospitals and community medical clinics. We work directly with the projects where we send you and where your contribution will make a real and meaningful difference. You will be offered a personal and customizable placement service. You will be supported throughout the duration of your placement. We use our local knowledge and spend time in the country meeting your requirements.

Customized placements that volunteers have asked for in the past include volunteering in mobile clinics, volunteer in mental health clinics, amongst the handicapped, hospice volunteering, HIV/Aids or doing volunteer work in specific areas like nutrition, dental services and working amongst the

Children Orphanage Volunteers Program : You will work with HIV/AIDS orphans, many of whom are HIV positive. Others have been abandoned after birth. We have orphanage projects in Nairobi, orphanages in Mombasa, Nakuru and other small towns. Orphans in Kenya orphanages and Children’s homes are extremely disadvantaged and encounter a lot of hardships in their life.

Medical and Health Volunteer Program Volunteers: In this area are given responsibilities depending on their medical qualifications. Qualified doctors and nurses can carry full day to day treatment of various diseases. Medical students work under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. 

 Volunteers on the teaching program: Assist with the teaching of different subjects in Kenyan elementary and high schools. Volunteer teachers can teach mathematics, science, geography, social sciences, history, business education, English, art and music. Volunteer teachers are not required to have teaching experience. Our volunteers work in schools with students who come from very difficult economic circumstances or are orphans. Please note that Kenyan school holidays are in April, August and November 15 –January 3rd. No school teaching will be available during that period.

 Masai Volunteer Program : are available amongst the Masai tribe of Kenya. The volunteer jobs are close to the Masai Mara Game reserve. Volunteers work in a rescue centre which accommodates Masai women and Masai girls rescued from forced marriages and those 

rescued from forced Female Genital Mutilation(FGM) practices.

 HIV and AIDS Voluntary program: Your HIV/Aids volunteer service will include homecare visits to the slums bringing vital supplies of food, medicine, and providing basic medical care. HIV/Aids volunteers help decrease the spread of HIV by raising awareness and promoting access to medical care. Volunteers also provide emotional support and foster compassion for people living with HIV/Aids in the community. Volunteers educate and counsel the community, schools and individuals. AIDS orphans are often neglected in Africa. As a volunteer in this program, you will visit HIV/Aids clinics, and help meet the needs of affected people in the community.

Day 1: CAIRO
After arrival at Cairo International Airport, you will be met and assisted by our steward to clear with passport control formalities, luggage identification & portage. You will then be transferred by air-conditioned private vehicle to your hotel where our steward will assist you with check-in. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 2: CAIRO
After breakfast, visit the Egyptian Museum. The museum has the largest and finest collection of Pharanoic antiquities in the world. Over 100,000 pieces dating from 4,000 years are exhibited, including the magnificent treasure of king Tutankhamon.
Then visit the great Pyramids and the Sphinx - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. On the way to the Temple of the Valley (of the pyramid of Kephren), lies the large statue of the Sphinx. It is one of most famous monuments in the world. This legendary statue has the body of a lion and the face of a man. It is 70 m long and 20 m high.

Breakfast will be served at your hotel. You will spend the rest of the day at leisure in Cairo.
Take a dinner cruise on the Nile -with around 2 hours cruising on the Nile. The cruise includes international buffet dinner and belly dance and folkloric show.

6nights 7days Jungle/Beach Safari (Maasai Mara-Mombasa)

Itinerary Description 

Day 1:
Arrive  at Moi International Airport and transfer to the Beach Resort and Spa, where you are booked on Half board basis. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: The Beach & Spa Full day at leisure where you are booked on Half board basis. The resort boasts activities and features not yet found anywhere in East Africa, for example the Nirvana Health and Wellness Spa which has been designed in conjunction with the Ginkgo Spa Group. This spa offers state of the art facilities which include reflexology, aromatherapy, mud wraps and detox treatments, to name but a few. The resort also boasts the best water sport center in Diani and includes 7 jet skis, skiing, deep sea fishing, PADI dive center ad many other activities.

Day 3:
Breakfast, later transferred to Moi International Airport for your domestic flight departing for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to the International departures terminal, to connect with your departure to Nairobi.

Day 4 

Depart for a scenic drive south passing the Great Rift onto what is undoubtedly the richest wildlife area in the world, Masai Mara. Whilst game viewing on-route to your Luxurious Lodge inside the Mara you check in and have lunch. In the afternoon you make your game drives exploring the Masai Mara in search for the Big 5. Have dinner, campfire stories and overnight on the golden savannahs of the Mara.

Day 5: pre-breakfast game viewing early in the morning at sunrise, head back for breakfast and leave for a full day game driving exploring the Mara till late in the afternoon. Lunch will in the bush, packet from your lodge or in another lodge of choice. Be back in time to prepare for dinner and enjoy the surroundings of your Lodge.

Day 6: pre-breakfast, mid morning and afternoon game viewing from your accommodation. If necessary you can make full day game drives in case wildlife around your accommodation is less. Today you may also opt to go for Hot Air Ballooning to view Masai Mara from an elevated position during a balloon flight or visit a Masai Village in between meals and in some places there are guarded nature walks available.

Day 7: Have early breakfast at sunrise, proceed on-route game viewing out of the Masai Mara and be back in your city hotel where you arrive in time for late lunch. You can opt to have lunch in Narok town after an extended morning game drive.
